To expand the Nari Shakti (Women’s Power) Program which works to ensure economic independence and provide leadership opportunities for low–income South Asian women, many of whom work as domestic workers or in nail salons.

Family Date Care Network Financial Literacy Program
To fund a bilingual program based on participant-identified need that will educate Family Day Care Network members on a diverse set of important and timely financial issues.

Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES)   $40,000
PHROLES program
To educate and organize public housing residents of the Lower East Side to prevent eviction, create a safer neighborhood, support resident health, and work to support residents affected by domestic violence.

Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ)   $40,000

To support the Shalom Bayit: Justice for Domestic Workers program, a project developed in conjunction with Domestic Workers United to raise–consciousness among employers of domestic workers and to bring them into the fight for a state–wide domestic workers bill of rights.

Love Heals: The Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education   $50,000

To fund The Leadership Awareness and Empowerment Program (LEAP) for Girls which serves young women of color in the neighborhoods that report high HIV rates by providing comprehensive health education and empowerment classes.

Mount Sinai Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program   $40,000

To provide a holistic approach to working with victims of commercial sexual exploitation, including medical attention for victims, ongoing social work and case management, legal services, and job training.

ParentJobNet, Inc.   $40,000

To strengthen the school-based community program that provides parents of public school students with job and resume preparation, financial planning skills, ESL classes, and links to job training, networking, and employment opportunities.

Row New York   $40,000

To empower low income girls and young women in New York City to achieve excellence in all facets of their lives through a highly structured program of competitive rowing and comprehensive academic support.

RightRides for Women’s Safety   $40,000

To support the expansion of advocacy efforts, including the creation of a Safe Subway Coalition, and continued work to offer to women and girls in New York City rides home free of charge.

Urban Justice Center   $40,000
Homelessness Outreach & Prevention Project
To fund The Access to Education Project which works to increase the level of public benefits pregnant and parenting young women receive while they continue their education, and to ensure that women are informed of their rights to public benefits.

VAMOS Unidos   $40,000

To support the organizing efforts of street vendors in the Bronx to win an increase in street vending permits, advocate with local police precincts to decrease arrests and harassments of street vendors, and to build leadership among the members.

Voces Latinas   $50,000

To help reduce the rate of HIV transmission among immigrant Latinas by empowering, educating and providing leadership and advocacy training to enable them to make healthier decisions for themselves and their families.
