More than 40 years ago, Congress passed the Pregnancy Discrimination Act to protect pregnant women in the workplace. The law made it illegal for employers to consider pregnancy in decisions about hiring, firing and promotion. Yet decades after the passage of the act, pregnancy discrimination persists.
