In Memory of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

We join you in mourning the loss of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a fierce champion for justice and women’s rights. The weight of her loss feels especially heavy in a year that has been marked by a global health and economic crisis, an overdue reckoning on racial justice and continued attacks on democracy. Yet through this, we must pause to reflect on the life of a woman who fought for what is right through her final days, laying the framework for a more equitable society.
Justice Ginsburg’s legacy will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on generations to come and her service is a true testament to the power of women’s leadership. Even before her appointment to the Supreme Court in 1993, she courageously and successfully steered courts to ensure equal protections for women under the law. Through her service, she influenced landmark legislation for the betterment of our country, including decisions on reproductive rights, LGBTQ individuals, voter suppression, immigrant rights, health care, affirmative action and more.
We carry the memory of Justice Ginsburg with us into a pivotal election season. The values she stood for and communities she centered in her work deeply align with who we are as a Foundation— and we press on in her name.
For the women and girls who have had a path cleared for them because of the trail she blazed.
For those fighting for justice who were inspired by her fierce determination.
And for the secure and equitable future in which she laid the groundwork. It is our heartfelt and most urgent duty to see her vision of a more just society through to fruition.
In Solidarity,
