Justice for Dreamers & LGBTQ Communities

We are heartened by this week’s twin decisions by the Supreme Court of the United States to uphold the rights of youth immigrants and LGBTQ+ individuals … representing not one, but two steps forward in the long march to a just, equitable and inclusive country.

On Monday, SCOTUS handed down a profound victory for LGBTQ+ workers by ruling that the 1964 Civil Rights Act protects gay, lesbian and transgender employees from discrimination based on sex, striking down the Trump Administration’s position that it does not.
Today’s ruling struck down the Administration’s “arbitrary and capricious” decision to rescind DACA, the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals policy, allowing young immigrants brought here by their parents to continue to pursue their dreams of living and working in this country free of the fear of deportation.
At The New York Women’s Foundation, we fund many grassroots organizations that have been striving every day to bring these profound victories home. To the activists on the front lines: thank you. Your advocacy is vital to creating a country that honors all of its people. And to those who continue to support the fight for economic, racial and gender justice, your actions make a difference.
